Because it's my RIGHT

On November 4th Christian and I will go to our Stake Center and vote for the next President of the United States. I don't want to vote for McCain or Obama...I feel I will be voting for one of the lesser evils BUT it is my right to vote and I am going to take advantage of that. I am glad that I have a choice unlike other less fortunate people in this world. So I have educated myself on each candidate and I have decided to vote for McCain. When I say that I am voting for him I absolutely, positively am not saying that I agree with everything he has planned for us but, like I said before, he is the lesser of the evils in my OPINION. I really like Palin's veiws...she has many of the same values that I do and it makes me feel a little less nervous to have her by McCains side. Anyway, I am not going to go on about this because I am not trying to change anyones vote I just wanted to let you all know who I am voting for. I lost all respect for Obama when I found out he doesn't salute the United States flag during our anthem. I know some of you are thinking of how petty this might be and I know there are bigger issues but this is one of the first things I learned about Obama- and his qualities or lack thereof just haven't redeemed him from that act.

ANYWAY, in the end I am voting for McCain because I feel I should and I won't go against my instincts. This is all my opinion and I completely respect anyone with differing opinions so I hope you respect mine. With that said I am curious to know who everyone is voting for and why...the only rule is this: No name calling...it doesn't solve anything ;)

OK first of all I have to say..whoever is singing the anthem is doing it HORRENDOUSLY! I mean..seriously...its heinous! But secondly...I find it very interesting that he didn't have his hand over his heart either! I am a fan of Obama and this wouldn't necessarily sway me NOT to vote for him (Palin scares the beejeebee's out of me) but what gives? Have you ever heard anything as to WHY he doesn't/didn't?

Wow. I'm surprised anyone has their hand over their heart instead of over their ears - that girl should not be allowed anywhere near a microphone.

US code title 36.

§ 301. National anthem

(a) Designation.— The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b) Conduct During Playing.— During a rendition of the national anthem—
(1) when the flag is displayed—
(A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart;
(B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and
(C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and
(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

PS, that lady should be banned from singing forever......

I agree with you that neither candidate seemed worthy of my vote, but like you I chose the lesser of two evils and chose McCain. My decision was made when I heard Obama was a huge abortion advocate. I knew he was for it, but I didn't realize to what extent. He voted against a bill that would protect against abortions where labor was induced, a baby was born WAY premature (note: these babies have birth certificates and death certificates) and then just left to die. It was shocking. These babies are 20 weeks! That's halfway through a pregnancy! I was so disgusted. He not only voted against this bill once, but three differant times. He speaks about partial birth abortions and his support of them. I don't know how people can allow that kind of behavior to a precious little baby.

I agree that neither one of them is a great choice. I'm still unsure. There are pros and cons to each of them though.
I remember reading that there were a couple reasons that Obama didn't put his hand on his heart that day. I think he said later something about being raised that way by his grandfather or something ... but also of course there may not have been a flag, I didn't watch the video again though, so I'm not sure.
As far as abortion, I don't think that it's right, at all. BUT, we need to remember that the church has a stance on the issue, and that's what we should look for. Here is the link: http://www.newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/public-issues/abortion It's interesting to read the last paragraph where it's said that they don't favor or appose the legislative proposals or public demonstrates concerning abortion. Yet, looking at Proposition 8 going on in California, they church is 100% with that. It's kind of interesting. Even the church says there are reasons for abortion ... however, I agree with the person that posted right above me, that if there isn't a good reason at all, and you just want to not be pregnant or whatever, however far along you are is totally barbaric!!
Anyways, really, I have no idea yet who I'll vote for. Like I said, I think they both have pros and cons. I too like Palin, however, I'm not sure she'd be a great president if it ever did have to come to that. Thanks for posting your opinions though Nichole, I love reading what other people think because overall it helps me think about who I want to vote for and why I may want to go with that person.

I think very few people can really sing the anthem well :)
Any way I do respect you although I disagree ;)
I am going to vote for Obama :)
BUT I AM GLAD YOU ARE GOING TO VOTE I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD!!

Wow..I can't believe you truly think Palin is a good VP candidate! McCain couldn't have messed that decision up any worse than he did by picking her. She's corrupt, supports secessionism, and has absolutely no idea what a VP's responsibilities are. Frankly, she scares the crap out of me...more so than Dick Cheney.

While I am registered as unaffiliated, I will go out on a limb and say that I tend to agree with the right on most issues and would probably vote with them most of time. However, we can't stand for another 4 years of the same failed policy that we've dealt with for 8 years now. McCain may not be like Bush 100%, but he was pretty proud of the fact that he agreed with and voted with him 90% of the time, which in my book, is too much. If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck.

I voted for Obama because he is the shot in the arm that America needs right now. He's not a terrorist and he's not muslim. If it's Socialism you are worried about, you're too late, Bush has already set the wheels in motion on that one.

Obama/Biden in 2008!

Another thing....

Obama DOES put his hand over his heart when the National Anthem is played. Visit this site http://blog.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2007/11/obama_nabbed_by_the_patriotic.html for the truth about the video you posted and the completely fabricated email that accompanied it.

And to me, that didn't sound like the National Anthem, it sounded like somebody was trying to neuter a cat without anesthesia. It hurt my ears to listen to it.

Make sure you fact check the claims others make before you believe them. There are so many websites out there (i.e. Fox News, The Huffington Post, etc...) that lean left or right and make many baseless unsubstantiated claims in hopes that they can lure potential voters by scaring them.

That's my $0.02...

Thanks Lee, for clearing some things up! LOL... I am definitely not a big fan of either (isn't it sad how many people feel that way this election) but I am voting on the issues and I am swaying to the left. I will be voting for Obama, which doesn't mean I agree with him on everything, i just think he's a better pick. I must also agree that Palin doesn't know her face from her a$$.(sorry, but had to be said!) She is a good-looking overly-confident woman who has no idea what the crap she is talking about. Did you watch any of her interviews.... "um, therefore, such as".... I thought I was watching a re-run of that stupid girl giving her her Miss America speech. She NEVER answered any of the questions in any sort of intelligle way. Tina Fey is spot on. Honestly I think we'd be better off if with Hilary for Pres. than either of these 2 clowns! (that outta get some comments!) I feel like writing in Bill Richardson... that's who I wanted, he was a real person, I guess that's why he didn't make it.

I've just gotta agree with the comments on the singer, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and say maybe she swallowed a voiceover on accident before she started singing and spent her time during the anthem trying to cough/yell/sing it out. :) I'm sure she has a sweet spirit!

I lost all respect for Obama when I found out that he is not interested in saving babies that are born after a botched abortion. He is ok with leaving them on a shelf to die. He is soooo cool! (can you sense my sarcasim?)
